The Ultimate Fantasy Football Pyramid

The Ultimate Fantasy Football Pyramid is a group of six independent leagues which combine to form a pyramid structure.  Within this structure, it will take at least 3 years for a team to become the Pyramid Champion.

                       A

           B                        C

D                        E                        F

This league has a $10 entry fee.  This fee is to pay all the costs for running multiple leagues on the Internet, and to help confirm your level of commitment to the Pyramid.  You have until 2 weeks prior to your draft to change your mind and receive a refund.  Any additional funds that are collected over the cost to run the leagues will be given back to the Pyramid Champion at the end of the season.

League designations and names:

League A -- Amen-Ra
League B -- Anubis
League C -- Horus
League D -- Set
League E -- Isis
League F -- Osiris

The following is an explanation of how the leagues will fill up and how team movement within the UFFP will take place.  Due to the unique design and structure of the pyramid, the first 3 years (through the 2003 NFL season) operated under slightly different rules until all the leagues were filled.  The first Grandmaster champion will be crowned after 3 years and every subsequent winner will have to have invested at least 3 years into this achievement.

Grandmaster Tier (GMT):

1 league of 12 owners - League A

The SB Champion (A1) is crowned as the Pyramid Champion.  Upon completion of this (at least) 3 year conquest, the Pyramid Champion is then removed to the Expert tier.  The owner gets a one year dispensation and can use that to be placed at the top of the waiting list to begin anew.

The remaining playoff teams (designated as A2, A3 and A4) remain in the GM tier to compete the following year. Of the remaining eight teams, the team with the highest point total for the season (designated as GMT5) also stays to compete in the GM tier next year.

The remaining 7 teams (designated as GMT6 through GMT12) will be bumped to the Master tier.

Master Tier (MT):

2 leagues of 12 owners each - Leagues B and C.

Top 3 teams from each league graduate to the Grandmaster tier, plus the 2 highest scoring teams

~ SB winners (designated B1, and C1 respectively)
~ SB losers  (designated B2, and C2 respectively)
~ Consolation bowl winners (designated B3, and C3 respectively)
~ From the remaining 18 teams, the 2 teams with the highest scoring teams over the course of the regular season.  These teams will be designated MT7 and MT8.

The remaining teams in leagues B and C will be grouped together and then ranked according to record and then total points.  These 16 teams are designated at MT9 through MT24 (MT designating the Master Tier, and the number designating the rank within the tier).

The bottom 12 teams (designated MT13 through MT24) will be bumped down to the Expert tier, regardless of their original league.  In other words, 5 teams from league B and 7 teams from league C may be demoted.  Make sure you realize that you are also competing with all the other owners in your tier.

The remaining 4 teams (designated MT9 through MT12) will remain in the Master Tier the following season.

Expert Tier (ET):

3 leagues of 12 owners each - Leagues D, E and F.

Top 3 teams of each league graduate to the Master tier, plus the 4 highest scoring teams, out of the remaining 27 teams in the tier.
    ~ SB winners  (designated D1, E1, and F1 respectively)
    ~ SB losers   (designated D2, E2, and F2 respectively)
~ Consolation bowl winners (designated D3, E3, and F3 respectively)
~ From the 27 remaining teams, the 4 teams with the highest scoring teams over the course of the regular season.  These teams will be designated as ET10, ET11, ET12, and ET13

The remaining teams in leagues D, E, and F will be grouped together and then ranked according to record and then total points. These 23 teams are designated at ET14 through ET36 (ET designating the Expert Tier, and the number designating the rank within the tier).

The bottom 12 teams (designated as ET25 through ET36) will be bumped from the Ultimate Fantasy Football Pyramid to the bottom of the waiting list, regardless of their original league.  In other words, 5 teams from league D, 3 teams from league E, and 4 teams from league F might get bumped.  Make sure you realize that you are competing against all the other owners in your tier.

The remaining 11 teams (ET 14 through ET24) will remain in the Expert Tier the following season.

Placement by the numbers - Subsequent year composition

League placement for all subsequent years will be guaranteed only upon receipt of the entrance fee.  Collection of said fee will typically be early summer and all owners will be notified early and often.

Grandmaster tier - Once teams are reassigned during the offseason, the new Grandmaster tier will be as follows:

A2, A3, A4, GMT5, B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3, MT7, MT8

*Please note - any of the above teams that do not want to continue (and I don't know why they wouldn't - but there might be a valid reason) will be replaced by the MT9 ranked team, and on downward until all teams are filled.  Please refer to the section Filling the Tiers for more details.

Master tier - Once teams are reassigned during the offseason, the new Master Tier composition will be created from the following groups:

~ The "demoted teams" (GMT6 thru GMT12) - Three will be assigned to League B, four will be assigned to League C

~ The "keeper teams" (MT9 thru MT12) - All teams that remain will stay in their original league for the subsequent season.

~ The "promoted teams" (D1 thru D3, E1 thru E3, F1 thru F3, and ET10 thru ET13) - Seven will be assigned to League B, six will be assigned to League C

Team placement will be determined by a random dice roll on www.irony.com conducted by a league administrator.  Each team will receive two dice rolls from a 100 sided dice.  The first roll is the primary roll, the second roll is used in event of a tie with the primary roll.  The teams with the lower numbers will be placed in League B, and the teams with the higher number will be placed into League C.  (Note:  You will receive a separate dice roll to determine your draft order)

*Please note - any of the above teams that do not want to continue (which may occur at this level, but hopefully it does not) will be replaced by the ET14 ranked team, and on downward until all teams are filled.  If a replacement situation occurs prior to the dice rolls, the group breakdown (X number to League B, Y number to League C) will be adjusted proportionately.  Please refer to the section Filling the Tiers for more details.

Expert tier - Once teams are reassigned during the offseason, the new Expert Tier composition will be created from the following groups:

~ The "demoted teams" (MT13 thru MT24) - Three will be assigned to League D, three will be assigned to League E, and three will be assigned to League F

~ The "keeper teams" (ET14 thru ET24) plus the Pyramid Champion (A1) - All teams that remain will stay in their original league for the subsequent season. The Pyramid Champion will get to select which Expert tier he would like to compete in for the following season.

~ The "Wait List teams" - Three will be assigned to League D, three will be assigned to League E, and three will be assigned to League F

Team placement will be determined by a random dice roll on www.irony.com conducted by a league administrator.  Each team will receive two dice rolls from a 100 sided dice.  The first roll is the primary roll, the second roll is used in event of a tie with the primary roll.  The teams with the lower numbers will be placed in League D, teams in the middle will be placed in League E, and the teams with the higher number will be placed into League F.  (Note:  You will receive a separate dice roll to determine your draft order)

*Please note - any of the above teams that do not want to continue (which may occur at this level) will be replaced by the next team on the Wait List  If a replacement situation occurs prior to the dice rolls, the group breakdown (X number to League D, etc) will be adjusted proportionately. ALL waiting list teams will start at this tier, and there will be no "tier jumping".  Please refer to the section Filling the Tiers for more details.

Divisions within your league

Division placement for all leagues will be determined after every team has been placed in their new tier and league.  An administrator will roll two 100 sided dice on www.irony.com for each owner.  The 4 lowest rolls will be placed in the "East" division, the next 4 will be placed in the "Central" division, and the remaining teams will be placed in the "West" Division.

We have decided that to enhance the continuity of the league as a whole, we will retain the original division names within each league.

In order to spare teams from excessive e-mails and confusion, participants will not be copied on the e-mails of division placement.   Results of dice rolls for division placement will be posted to the league message board if possible.

Filling the tiers

Throughout the offseason, the administrators do their best to maintain contact with all of the owners and keep a pulse on commitment levels.  It is also an important responsibility of each team to keep in touch with the administrators, especially regarding changes to their e-mail address.

Offseason replacement - For any reason, if an owner from the previous year cannot be contacted and is unreachable by June 15th, or if a returning member notifies the league administrators they will not be returning to the Pyramid, this will be considered an Offseason Replacement.  The administrators will replace that team with the next highest qualifying available team, as noted in previous sections.

Note:  Payment deadline to guarantee your place in the pyramid is June 15th.  Exceptions may be granted, but only under extreme circumstances pre-approved by league administrators.    (Hint:  Failing to contact the league prior to June 15th will not be approved).

Preseason replacement - If a team decides to opt out of the league, he/she must do so at least two weeks prior to his/her league draft in order to receive a full refund.  In this circumstance, the team will be replaced in the same manner as the Offseason Replacement.  After this point, if a team decides to opt out, does not show up for the draft, or is more than five minutes late for the draft, this will be considered a Preseason Replacement.  If time permits (since this could be two weeks prior to the draft, or five minutes), a qualifying replacement in the same manner as an Offseason Replacement will be used.  If time does not permit (e.g. a draft no-show):

Grandmaster or Master Tier - A league administrator will draft the team used the most recent Value Based Draft (VBD) rankings from footballguys.com.  After the draft, this team will be offered to the next highest qualifying available team from the previous year.  If this team chooses the offer of advancement, he/she will abandon placement in the "lower" league and be placed in the "higher" league.  He/she will have full ownership and rights to the team, including the possibility of advancement or demotion upon completion of the year.  If he/she chooses not to accept the offer (which may be understandable based on several factors), the offer is made to the NEXT qualified team, and so on.

If the team owner who accepted the advancement has already drafted in the "lower" league, his/her team will be offered in the same manner to the highest qualified team in subsequent tiers.

If no one within the tier accepts the offer for advancement, the team will be run by a league administrator or other league commissioner.  This team will be run competitively for the good of the league, however it will not qualify for the playoffs or advancement.  Regardless of the final season record, this team will be classified as the lowest ranking team in its tier (GMT12 or MT24) at the conclusion of the regular season.

Expert Tier - For all drafts in the Expert Tier, there will be at least one alternate from the wait list either present online or available on call.  This person will be contacted to fill in at the draft at the last minute when possible, or may pre-arrange to submit a draft list to the admin to draft for them if the situation arises.  If a draft time replacement is not available at the last minute, the team will be drafted by an admin, and offered to the person at the top of the wait list after the draft has been completed.

If a replacement owner cannot be found (and I don't know why we would be able to give away a free team), the team will be run by a league administrator or other league commissioner.  This team will be run competitively for the good of the league, however it will not qualify for the playoffs or advancement.  Regardless of the final season record, this team will be classified as the lowest ranking team in its tier (ET36) at the conclusion of the regular season.

Note:  There will never be a situation where an owner enters the pyramid on any tier other than the Expert Tier.

Regular season replacement - If an owner drops out of the Grandmaster or Master Tier once the season has started, the team will be run by a league administrator or other league commissioner for the remainder of the season.  This team will be run competitively for the good of the league, however it will not qualify for the playoffs or advancement.  Regardless of the final season record, this team will be classified as the lowest ranking team in its tier (GMT12 or MT24) at the conclusion of the regular season.

If an owner drops out of the Expert Tier once the season has started, the team will be given to the owner at the top of the waiting list.  If the NFL season has played three weeks or less, the new owner will have all rights and privileges including advancement or demotion.  If the fourth week of the NFL has started, the new owner can qualify for the playoffs, but will not qualify for advancement.  However, if the new owner is bumped from the tier, they will be placed on the top (rather than the bottom) of the wait list for the next season.

All new teams that wish to enter the Ultimate Fantasy Football Pyramid must register on the waiting list prior to being accepted into the Expert Tier.  The only exception is the one year dispensation for the Pyramid Champion.

Explanation of the numbering system

The letter designates your league (A thru F) or your tier (ET, MT, GMT).  The number is your rank within the league or tier.

For example, B3 would mean that you were the 3rd place team in league B.  During the season, the league rankings are based solely on overall record and total points.  After the completion of the season, the top 3 places will denote the ranking based on the results of league playoffs.  These three teams will not be assigned (nor will they need) a tier ranking, but essentially are placed at the top of the tier.

A tier ranking of ET14 designates your ranking within your tier, in this case the 14th ranked team in the Expert tier.  Your tier ranking will only become official and relevant after the season and is for the sole purpose of determining the overall team rank based on the entire tier.  Mid-season rankings are only approximations and should be used for illustrative purposes only.  The main thing to understand is at the end of the season, the top 3 playoff teams within your league will move up a tier (Just making the playoffs does not guarantee advancement, you have to win at least one playoff game).  The bottom teams from all of the leagues combined in your tier will move down a tier or be removed from the pyramid entirely.

The governing body will send out emails to all teams in the pyramid after weeks 4, 7, 10 and 14 giving out the following information:  Team Name, League, Tier, Record, Points Scored, and Tier Rank. This will help you in determining your tier standing, and what you may need to do to move up (if you need to), or what you may need to do to stay where you are (if you want to).

At the conclusion of the season, you will receive a total tier rank.  That ranking will be what is used to determine whether you move up, down or stay where you are.  It is always a possibility that owners will abandon their teams in the middle of the pyramid, during the offseason.  Rather than giving every team in the tier a new ranking, the next best team from the tier below will replace the departing team.

Lineups

Line-ups are adjustable up until 1 hour prior to kickoff.  In order to avoid potential problems, please have your lineup in early.  Lineup requirements are:
1 QB - 1-2 RBs - 3-4 WRs - 1-2 TEs - 1 PK - 1 D

Starting in 2005, we will be using FLEX lineups. You will have ONE flex player each week. This player can be a RB, a WR or a TE.

Players participating in early games will be locked one hour prior to kickoff.  All other players will be locked down one hour prior to the early games on Sunday.  If you have players participating in a Thursday game, you need to submit a lineup for those players, 1 hour before kickoff.  You can then change your other starting players, and submit an additional lineup on Sunday, changing other active players (but not those that have already played that week).

The purpose of this league is to have fun and compete against each other. Failing to field your best team undermines the integrity of the league. Every owner must try to field his or her best team each week. Failing to get a lineup changed in time does happen on occasion.  But intentionally tanking a game for any reason, including but not limited to, aiding another team, trying to improve waiver priority position, etc, goes against the spirit of the league and is not permitted.

Any owner that fails to submit a valid lineup for the week will have the previous week's, valid lineup, pulled forward to the current week. They will also have a strike against them in the 3 strike rules for dead owners.

Internet sites

The UFFP currently uses myfantasyleague.com (hereto referred as MFL) to run all leagues and draft sessions.  The cost for MFL one of the major costs involved with your entry fee.  The Pyramid Administrator reserves the right to change the internet site used, based on the good of the pyramid.

UFFP has a chat room (http://www.uffp.net/forums/) used for most communication both league-wide and pyramid-wide.  It is the responsibility of each owner to check the posting board very regularly.

Scoring system

Offensive scoring:
6 points per passing TD
6 points per rushing/receiving TD
.04 points per passing yard
.1 points per rushing/receiving yard
2 points per 2 point conversion
-2 points per interception/lost fumble
3 points per FG
.1 per yard over 30
-3 points per missed FG
.1 per yard over 30
1 point per made XP
-1 point per missed XP

Defensive scoring:
6 points per defensive TD
2 points per interception or fumble
2 points per safety
1 point per sack
2 points per blocked FG
1 point per blocked punt
1 point per blocked XP

Points against:
12 points for a shutout
-.25 per point allowed up to 30 points
-.50 per point allowed over 30 points
Only points scored while the defense is actually on the field will count against your defense

*Please note that the above scoring is decimal.  This will greatly decrease ties, though they may still occur.  With decimal scoring each and every yard your players can eek out will score you something!

MFL uses SportsTicker for all of their stats, so that will be the 'official' statistical reference for all of our leagues.  There are two main things to consider: The current season of wins and losses, and the end of season tier ranking.

1.  Any stat has until the start of the following week's games to be changed.  At that time, all statistics become official for the determination of wins and losses.  Of course, any incorrect scoring is the responsibility of the owner to point out to his commissioner, who will address the scoring question with an admin to MFL.  This also has the same weekly deadline.

2.  Any stat that is changed prior to the final posting of the tier ranking will be changed (both positive and negative) to the overall points of that team.  The tier ranking comes out in January, so any statistical changes after that time will not have any effect on the tier ranking.

The reason I think we need to be more careful and set a hard deadline for wins and losses, is that while the NFL will change stats, they will not change the outcome of a game.  Since our stats are the game, we are in a slightly different world.  If a statistic is changed within one week and it changes the outcome of a game, then so be it.  But after one week, all UFFP games are final.   However, the total points can be changed at any time throughout the season.  This may have an effect on playoffs and/or tier ranking as they both rely on total points.

Therefore, wins and losses can be changed up to one week after the conclusion of the game, and points can be changed at any time up to the posting of the final tier rankings in January.

Leagues

Each league will consist of 12 teams, 3 divisions of 4 teams.  Every league will need to organize several things:

~  The league will need to elect a commissioner.

~  The league needs to set up a time and date for the live draft.  It does not have to be the same time as the other leagues, but they must make a concerted effort to reach a consensus.

~  If they choose, the league may opt to change the division names within the league.

Commissioner

The commissioner will have extra duties along with the maintenance of his/her team.

1.      After initial league set-up on MFL, the commish will need to organize aspects of MFL according the UFFP rules (draft, scoring, etc)
2.      The commissioner may be responsible for drafting a team for any owner that does not submit a list of picks prior to the draft (if admin not present).
3.      The commissioner will independently review every trade.  Suspect trades should be rejected and/or escalated to admins.  (Refer to section regarding Trades)
4. He/She will be responsible for checking lineups each week and checking on any potential ‘dead owners’ as they occur. They will then inform an administrator of any team violating our active owner conduct.

Things a commissioner will have to keep in mind:

~  The commish must put the good of the league ahead of any one team, but must be very careful to give serious consideration to all owners'  concerns.
~  The commish must put the good of the entire pyramid ahead of the good of any one team.

Mini-Mees
There will be two returning members elected to serve as sub-administrators to the pyramid.  With the size of the pyramid, it is an incredible amount of work for one person, and the additional admins will hopefully be able to resolve any issues more quickly than one person.  They will each have specific duties along with the duty to assist league commissioners with any problems they may have.

1.      Financial status must be kept on all participants.  An owner cannot take part in any facet of the pyramid until their entry has been received and verified.  One admin will monitor and assist any owner needing help processing their entry fee.

2.      The other Mini-Me will assist in league placement and orientation.  They will take all new owners (after their payment has been verified) and place them in their initial league.  He will also assist any new owner in whatever questions they might have.  Also, he will schedule alternates to be present for the Expert tier drafts.

3. mini-me will process waiver wire transactions each week at the appointed time.

One mini-me will attend each draft in the Expert Tier to help minimize any potential problems that may arise.  They will verify all attending draftees and place alternates as necessary.  In extreme cases, they will draft a team based on the specifications outlined in this charter.  They will also take on the responsibility of message board moderators.  The Mini-Mees can be in any league while serving their term, but must have at lease one year experience in UFFP.  Any owner can bring up a league issue to them for assistance.  Please be advised that you should always go to your league commissioner first and then a mini-me.

Schedule

The regular season will be 14 weeks with 2 games vs. each divisional opponent and one game vs. every other team in the league. The playoffs will consist of the 3 division winners and 1 wildcard team. The wildcard will be based primarily on best overall record.  The division winner with the best record will face the wild card in week 15 as the other two division winners face off. Week 16 is the Super Bowl and the Consolation Bowl.

The schedule for UFFP will be simple and will be known before the NFL schedule is released.  Each league will have the same schedule makeup.  Each league will have three divisions (here I will refer to them as North (N), South (S), and Central © for brevity).  Within each division the teams will be randomly placed, and the schedule will be as follows:

Tie-breakers

Head-to-head matchups during regular season
Ties in head-to-head matchups during the course of the regular season (as rare as that may be) will be counted as ties.

Head-to-head matchups during playoffs
1.      Combined score of the top QB, RB, and WR from each teams' non-starting roster.  Only these three players from the owner's roster will be considered.  If the owner does not have a reserve in one of these positions, that position will score zero.
2.      Dice roll on irony.com, owner with the highest score from 1-100 wins.

Tie-breakers to determine division champions
Used in the event of a tie at the end of the regular season (wildcard team will be calculated after all division winners have been determined).

1.      Head to Head record
2.      Divisional record
3.      Total points scored
4.      Head to head point margin (scored - allowed)
5.      Divisional point margin (scored - allowed)
6.      Dice roll on irony.com owner with the highest role from 1-100 wins

Tie-breakers to determine wildcard teams
Used in the event of a tie at the end of the regular season.

1.      Head to Head record
2.      Total points scored
3.      Head to head point margin (scored - allowed)
4.      Divisional point margin (scored - allowed)
5.      Dice roll on irony.com, owner with the lowest roll is out of the playoffs.

If three or more teams are tied at the end of the season, all teams will be compared via the tie-breakers until one team can be eliminated.  At that point, the remaining teams will then start the tie-breaking process from the top.  This process will continue until one wildcard team is left.

Tie-breakers to determine tier rank
The top 3 playoff teams are assigned League rankings instead of tier rankings at the end of the season.  These teams are essentially placed at the top of the tier (4 in Grandmaster, 6 in Master, 9 in Expert)

Each tier will have a specific number teams which will receive tier rankings based on total points.  These are the teams that will advance (1 in Grandmaster, 2 in Master, 4 in Expert).  If there is a tie for these spots, a dice roll on irony.com will be used; high roll will get top spot.

For the remaining non-advancing teams, the following criteria are used:

1.      Overall Record
2.      Total points scored
3.      Division record
4.      Dice roll on irony.com owner with the highest role from 1-100 wins

If three or more teams are tied at the end of the season, all teams will be compared via the tie-breakers until one team can be eliminated.  At that point the remaining teams will then start the tie-breaking process from the top.  This process will continue until one team is left, they will be given their overall tier ranking, and the remaining teams will participate in the tie-breaking process until all teams have a tier rank.

Draft

Draft order will be determined by a random dice roll on www.irony.com conducted by a league administrator.  Each team will receive two dice rolls from a 100 sided dice.  The first roll is the primary roll; the second roll is used in event of a tie with the primary roll.  The lower the number (compared to the others), the higher your draft spot.  The draft order will be serpentine -- The first pick in the first round will get the last pick in the second round, etc.

After all 12 teams have received their dice roll; the overall results will be e-mailed to the league and posted on the chat board.  (Note:  You will not use the same dice roll you received for league placement.  Rolls for draft order are separate rolls.)

The exact date of the draft is not important but the league must reach a consensus.  The commissioner will send out an email to all owners 1-2 weeks prior to the draft.  All owners must confirm their active status and confirm the date and time of the draft.

The draft will be 18 rounds long. There are no position maximums. Please keep in mind the new flex lineups. Try to draft a complete team because if your league drafts very close to the start of the NFL season, you may not have time to adjust your lineup before the season begins.

The drafts will all be held in a live format on MFL with 1 minute per pick allotted for the first 10 rounds and then 2 minutes per pick for the remaining 8 rounds.  There will be a 15 minute break after the 10th round, unless a consensus within the league decides to skip the break.  The entire draft should take no more than 5-6 hours.  Please make sure to have players ready to draft before your pick to speed up the process.  If everyone is prepared and marks down who has been previously drafted, it should make the entire draft about 3.5 hours

If you will not be available to make your pick, please send a list, via email, of players you would want to draft to your commissioner 2 days prior to the draft.  If you do not make a pick within your allotted time, nor send in a list of players by email, the commissioner will be forced to make a pick for you.  The commissioner will draft according to the VBD rankings on footballguys.com, with the following priorities:

1.      Fill out minimum reserves (2QBs, 4RBs, 5WRs, 2TEs, 2PKs, 2Ds).   He will use the top player available from the draft board if that position has been maxed, or will go on to the next available player if that position if filled, etc.
3.      The remaining slots will be filled by the highest player available from the draft board.

It is recommended that in addition to a list, you should also discuss with your draftee, about preferred strategy, favorite players, teams to avoid, etc. This will help you get the type of team you want and will help stamp this as your team. The more information you can provide the mini-me or your proxy, the better the overall results will be.

In cases where the owner either cannot draft their own team, or has not provided specific information for drafting, the Mini-me/commish will now have increased flexibility when drafting. They must still fill out the team with emphasis on the starters, but can bypass a starter to draft a higher ranked player using VBD and ADP.

Obviously, this is not a very effective drafting strategy, but it will allow the commissioner to field a semi-competitive team with enough reserves to allow for bye weeks.  Please do not allow this to happen to your team.  With the extreme competitive nature of the pyramid, you will be at a serious disadvantage and in danger of being bumped down a tier, or out of the pyramid.

During the draft the commissioners will attempt to use a "soft" time limit.  This means if an owner needs a little additional time, he should be granted that courtesy.  We all have problems from time to time: computer glitches, draft sheet disasters, whatever.  But there will be a three-strikes-and-you're-out policy in place.  If an owner repeatedly abuses the time limit, he will be given a warning.  After his third violation, he will be given no additional time, for the duration of the draft.  The commissioner or admin will then inform the next owner that it is his pick and will skip the offender's pick until one of the following conditions is met:

1.      The owner replies that he is now ready to pick.  At this time, the 'on the clock'; owner will complete his pick and the offender will then pick immediately following the current pick, prior to the 'on deck' owner.
2.      The defaulted pick will be moved to the end of the current round.  If the owner does not submit written notification to the commissioner that he is ready to select, the commissioner will allot 1 additional minute at the conclusion of the round in which the pick was skipped.  If a pick has still not been submitted within this time, the commissioner will make a selection for the team based on the guidelines in this charter while using a top 200 player VBD list.

The draft will then recommence at the beginning of the following round.

Trades

Pre-draft - Trading of draft picks will be allowed prior to the draft. All trades involving draft picks must be completed 1 day prior to the draft and be approved by both teams and the commissioner. There will be a blackout period starting 1 day prior to draft. The blackout ends after the draft is complete. Any trade that is not approved by all three parties (both owners and the commish) will not be processed, even if they were initiated prior to the 1 day blackout period.

Post-draft, pre-season - At the conclusion of the draft, trades can be made with players available for week 1, until the Friday before week 1 of the start of the season.

Regular season - Trades will be allowed up to and including week 13. No trades will be allowed after kickoff of week 14. A trade must be confirmed by both teams and the commissioner by Saturday at 10:00 PM EST to provide active players for that week, or by Wednesday at 10:00 PM EST, if there is a Thursday game. There may be trades that place an owner over the 18 player limit. If it is before our Wed waiver period, the owner must select the ‘extra’ player(s) that he wishes to drop. If it is after the Wed waiver period, the owner must indicate to the commissioner who he wishes to drop and the commissioner will process that player immediately.

Any owner can object to a trade by sending an email with his rationale to the commissioner.  The commissioner will then bring the trade up for a vote with all supporting information to the governing body of the Pyramid.  The commissioner and the 3 administrators will review the trade and provide a resolution with 24 hours.  It will take 3 of the 4 votes to overturn a trade.  The commissioner or the administrators may ask for additional information as supporting evidence for any questioned trade.

Collusion goes against the foundation of the Pyramid and an owner may be asked to leave if they are found guilty of this offense.  If a trade is overturned, the commissioner will restore the rosters to their original state and the governing body will investigate the situation in greater detail.  Having a trade overturned is not an indication of collusion in and of itself.

Suspect trades
Any trade that appears to help one team and not the other will be investigated.  This is a very free environment, and the governing body does not want to get into the business of policing the leagues, but competitive balance must be maintained.

Cannon fodder trades (trade 1 stud for 5 duds) and loaner trades (trade away player A for player B and in the following week trade player B for player A) are examples of suspect trading. There can be a very fine line between a “suspect” trade and a “bad” trade. Teams are allowed to make bad decisions, but also it’s important to remember that each coach values players and positions differently than the next coach.

All trades must be approved by the commissioner or an administrator before they go into effect. If a trade creates a situation where one franchise is over the 18 player limit, they must include an email to the commissioner stating which player they wish to drop. This email must be received before the trade will be processed. If the trade happens prior to the Wed waiver period, the owner can simply use the league software to drop any players over the roster limit. The commissioner/admin will then process the trade and make any necessary waiver moves at that time.

Free Agent/Waiver rules

Preseason FA/Waiver process - Each owner will be allotted $100 auction money to bid on any undrafted players they would like to add to their team.  This process will occur every week after the league has drafted until the regular season begins.  The auction bid will be every Thursday, with no bids accepted after 8:00 PM EST on Thursday.

The team bidding the highest on a particular player will 'win' the bid for the player.  The reverse draft order is used to determine the winner, in the event of a tie bid.  Teams can bid in tenths of a dollar, i.e. 20.5

Example of a bid
~ Email the admin with "FA bid" in the subject title.
~ Body of e-mail should state "The (team name) bid $10 on (name, team, pos) Player A and drops (name, team, pos) Player B"
~ For example, "The Mummified Remains bid $10 on Ryan Leaf, TB, QB and drop Kurt Warner, StL, QB."

The clearer you make your email the less chance there will be of a miscommunication.  If you do not get the player you wanted because of an unclear email, the admin's decision is final.

The starting order will be the reverse of the draft order.  A person retains their FA/waiver position if they don’t make a pickup.  For example, if we have a 4 team league with the following draft order.
1
2
3
4

The first week of FA would mean the order is now:
4
3
2
1

After week 1, teams 4 and 3 decide to make FA moves but teams 2 and 1 don't.  The new order is now:
2
1
4
3

This order will remain constant until a team makes a selection, at that time they will move to the bottom of the FA list.  So let's say in week 3 team 4 makes another move.  The final order would be:

2
1
3
4

Each team can submit up to 3 bids a week, and each individual bid cannot exceed their total remaining dollars.  Team A has 35 dollars left and submits two bids.  Bid 1 is for 15 dollars and bid 2 is for 20 dollars.  They could potentially get both players, assuming they indicate two different drops and no one else outbids them.  A second scenario could be that they bid 35 dollars for player A and 35 dollars for player B.  In this case, they can only get 1 of the 2 players, but it allows them to spend their remaining dollars in an attempt to get a player to help their team.

The admin will gather all of the waiver claims and determine which team gets a particular player (in the cases where more than one team places a claim against the same player).  He will then go to the corresponding league website and process the transactions.  The admins will handle all preseason waiver periods with the stipulation that they will not handle any league they are currently a member of.  Directions on which admin will be handling your league will be clearly indicated after the draft on the message boards.

FA/Waiver process during the season - In order to provide an equal opportunity for all owners to add players to their roster that are new to the free agent pool, a Waiver Wire process will be implemented. Owners' requests to add players on waivers to their roster are not executed immediately, but are put in a pending status. This allows multiple teams to request the same players.

Waiver Schedule - Late Monday night, after the standings are updated, a Waiver Ranking based on league standings will be generated on MFL. The team with the worst record will have the highest waiver rank.  The waivers are processed on Wednesday night, any requested input after this time are held for the following Wednesday.

Waiver Rank - On Tuesday night, the initial waiver rank for each team is determined based on league standings.  The team lowest in the standings receives the highest waiver rank. The criteria for determining the team lowest in the standings are:

1. Worst Won/Lost Record
2. Least Points Scored YTD
3. Most Points Scored Against YTD

During a waiver process, pending transactions are processed in an order determined by each team's waiver rank. The team with the highest waiver rank will get its first requested player. If that team's highest pending transaction can't be executed because another team has the requested player, the transaction gets deleted and the team's next transaction, if one exists, is then executed.

When a team gets a requested player, the team's waiver rank is dropped to the end and every other team moves up one and the process is continued. If a team doesn't have any pending transactions because all players requested were taken by other teams, or the owner simply didn't request any players, the team's turn is skipped but the waiver rank is not dropped. The waiver rank is reset at the beginning of the following waiver period, regardless of whether a team made any transactions during the current week.

Making a Waivers Claim - If you want to drop a player and pick up a player off of waivers follow these steps:

Go to your league website and click on waivers and then click on your team name, enter your password and it will take to an add/drop page.  This is where you will enter in the player(s) you want to add and the subsequent drop(s).  You can also rank your waivers by priority.  The site will rank all teams and then start processing claims.  You can make up to 3 waiver claims a week.

Lets say you have a player that you want to drop (player A) and several players that you would like to add (players B and C), depending on their availability when your turn comes up. If player B is not available you would like to pick up player C. In order to accomplish this you would submit two Add/Drop requests:

Drop player A, Add player B, and
Drop player A, Add player C.

Lets say your turn comes up and player B has already been picked up off waivers by another team. A request can not be executed if either the add or drop player is not available. Requests will be skipped until the first valid roster move is found. In this case, your second request would be executed and you would get player C (provided he is not also already picked up off waivers).

The same is true in the reverse. If you dropped player A and added player B, then during your next round of waiver selections it will skip over the second waiver request involving Player A and go down your list to see if you have any other waiver requests.

The deadline is Wednesday night 8:00 PM EST.  The commissioner will then process all transactions for the week.  The waiver period is then closed again until next Wednesday.  An owner can make a claim at any time during the week.  All potential claims will be queued until they are processed Wednesday night.

There will be an open FA period after all waiver claims have been processed for the week. This will remain open until the start of the first game for the week. So on weeks where there is a Thursday game, the open FA period will be open for about 1 day.

Postseason FA/Waiver process
After kickoff of week 14 all FA/Waiver moves will be blocked and all team rosters locked.

Dead Owners
This is a very important aspect of any league and one that cripples many internet leagues.  We want to maintain the high integrity of the pyramid and keep the playing field as even as possible for all the owners.

You will be considered a 'dead' owner during the season:

1.      Any owner that does not set a lineup for 2 consecutive weeks will be sent an email, to determine their active status.
2.      Any owner that does not respond to league emails, or emails from the commissioner.
3.      Any owner that leaves injured or bye week players in their starting lineup.

You will be considered a 'dead' owner during the offseason:

1.      Your email is no longer valid and league-wide emails from the admins are returned.
2.      You fail to respond to admin email during the offseason.  This may be in response to your involvement, additional duties, payment, etc.
3.      You miss the payment deadline without contacting the admins.

We will make a concerted effort to contact you, but after 3 unsuccessful attempts to contact you, you will be terminated.  Please understand that any contact information changes are the responsibility of the owner to update.

We will not tolerate owners getting 'bye-weeks' because their opponent's owner is no longer interested.  The commish will appeal to the governing body for a replacement and if no replacement can be found, they will get one of the other commissioners in the pyramid to set the lineup for the dead team.

A 'dead' owners list will be kept by the governing body and every attempt will be made, to make sure that a 'dead' owner is never allowed back into the pyramid.

Year to Year Schedule:

March - Returning owners will receive first confirmation of interest email.
May - Deadline for all returning members to confirm their slot in the pyramid.
June - All payments must be received for all returning members of the pyramid.
June - New administrators will be chosen at this time (if needed).
June - Leagues will be filled
July - Commissioners will be chosen for each league
July - Draft dates set.
January – Trophy updated and shipped to the new ‘caretaker’

I have a question about a rule that needs clarification: On the 8th hole, when our shot bounces off the spinning windmill blades and lands in some kid's ice cream cone, how hard are we allowed to hit our second shot?

TIA. Will answer yours. bag.gif

I have given it some considerable thought and discussed it with the mini's. I think that at this point we will stay the course. If we implement any rule, it would be the flex to see how much of an effect it will have.

But to answer your question, no official rule changes have been implemented as of right now.

A girl. Though we better have a similar rules interpreatation for each, so there's no more of those nasty sex discrimination lawsuits we had to deal with last year.

Don't you need to change this:

Line-ups are adjustable up until 1 hour prior to kickoff.

I'm pretty sure on MFL we're making lineup changes up to a minute prior to kickoff.

Am I reading the scoring rules right that Ks are penalized less for long misses than short ones, -3 + .1 for every yard over 30?

No....it's -3, PLUS .1 for every yard over 30....so a 35 would end up being -2.5. A 40 would be -2. 50= -1. Etc.

Thanks, I had it right in my head if not on the page.

I really wanted to get into this leage because the rules and structure made sense, and the FG thing is a great example.

Plus I conjured Win vs All statistics for my league last year and the other owners thought I'd lost my mind. Brought a tear to my eye to see them here.

The rules still state:

"Regular season - Trades will be allowed up to and including week 13. No trades will be allowed after week 13",

but further in the FA section we have

"After week 12 all FA/Waiver moves will be blocked and all team rosters locked."

I believe we had this issue last year and I don't remember the outcome.

It is a short week going into week 12 so a decision needs to be made ASAP.
